Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia was driven to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters for questioning after being arrested on Monday morning outside the Royal Media Services studios in Nairobi, where he had spent the previous night.
The MP had earlier claimed that police were waiting to detain him over controversial political statements he made during a television interview. Detectives took him into custody as he exited the studios, where he had remained overnight after alleging that security officers had surrounded the premises and set up roadblocks in preparation for his arrest.

On Sunday night, Kaguchia took to social media insisting he would not be intimidated, claiming that a group of police officers had surrounded Royal Media Services shortly after his appearance on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi programme.
His arrest comes amid widespread backlash over remarks attributed to him, in which he allegedly issued threats directed at political supporters of President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election. The comments drew condemnation from various political leaders and public figures, who characterized the language as inflammatory and inappropriate for a democratic society.
By Monday morning, detectives moved in and took the MP into custody outside the media house, in what is understood to be part of investigations into alleged threatening and inflammatory political remarks. His arrest followed a visit by a senior police officer to the station, who demanded that Kaguchia be produced.
Nairobi’s DCI head, Daniel Kandie, led the team to the Royal Media Services offices, where he held discussions with management before Kaguchia and several colleagues emerged from the building. He was subsequently driven away in a police vehicle.
His legal team said they were following up on the matter to determine the next steps. Senator Momoima Onyonka was seen accompanying Kaguchia as he left the studio.
Residents along Maalim Juma Road, off Dennis Pritt Road, had earlier complained of a heavy police presence in the area on Sunday night, with hooded officers reportedly stopping and searching vehicles leaving the vicinity, causing inconvenience to many. Some of Kaguchia’s supporters were seen gathered outside the DCI headquarters following his arrest.
