The two suspects, William Ovie Opia and JohnBull Asibor, were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate, Makadara Law Courts, on Monday, a week after the murder at a rented room in Roysambu.

Two Nigerians Linked to Rita Waeni Murder Released by Court

The Makadara Law Court has discharged two Nigerian individuals who were detained in connection with the murder of Rita Waeni, a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

William Ovie Opia and Johnbull Asbour had been held in police custody since January 22, 2024.

Initially, the court had granted permission for the police to detain the two suspects to facilitate ongoing investigations into the case. Magistrate Agnes Mwangi, upon releasing the individuals, ordered them to report to investigators once a week.

The prosecution confirmed that investigations are still underway.

Waeni was discovered deceased on January 14, 2024, in a temporary accommodation apartment in the Roysambu area of Nairobi.

Her body had been mutilated by her presumed assailant, with her head missing. Subsequently, the head was discovered at a dam in Kiambu County on January 21.

Waeni was laid to rest in a private ceremony on February 5, 2024.
