Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have held discussions on efforts to unite the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the possibility of fielding a single presidential candidate emerging as a major focus.
Sifuna said the two leaders agreed on the need for opposition figures to work together to mount a strong challenge against President William Ruto and protect what they described as Kenya’s constitutional democracy.
The ODM Secretary-General spoke after meeting Musyoka at his Nairobi home on Thursday morning.
Sifuna said the discussions centred on the need for leaders committed to the country’s interests to unite and work towards restoring constitutional governance.
The meeting comes as pressure continues to build on opposition parties to avoid splitting their support and instead agree on a common candidate for the 2027 presidential race.
Musyoka is expected to be an influential figure in efforts to identify a potential opposition coalition candidate, given his experience in previous political alliances.
The former Vice-President was a key member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition, which supported Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in the 2022 election.
Sifuna’s meeting with Musyoka is therefore seen as significant as opposition parties begin balancing individual presidential ambitions with efforts to form a broader coalition capable of mounting a serious challenge to the Kenya Kwanza administration in 2027.
