Tanzania will hold its general elections on October 29, as announced by the country’s Electoral Commission Chair, Court of Appeal Judge Jacobs Mwambegele, during a briefing in Dodoma.
Mwambegele stated that the official campaign period will run from August 28 to October 27, ahead of the polls. The voter register currently holds 37.65 million registered citizens.
The elections come at a time when there is mounting pressure to reform electoral management laws. Meanwhile, the main opposition party, CHADEMA, has declared a boycott, citing concerns over transparency and fairness.
