A carpenter who had been missing for several hours was found dead in Lake Yahud, Wajir County.
Mahat Ali Gedow, 48, was reported missing on November 19, and his body was discovered in the lake the following day. Police confirmed that he died by drowning.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found his lifeless body lying on the shore, dressed only in red shorts and showing no visible signs of injury. A search around the lake led to the discovery of his clothes—a pair of trousers, a shirt, and open shoes—which were identified by family members as belonging to the deceased.
The body was retrieved from the water and taken to the Wajir County referral mortuary, where an autopsy confirmed that drowning was the cause of death. The body was then released to the family for burial according to Islamic customs.
The exact cause of the drowning remains unclear, according to the police. Locals reported that Gedow worked as a carpenter in Wajir Town.
In a separate incident, 38-year-old Alex Wambua drowned after slipping into the swollen Ngong River in South B, Nairobi. The river, which runs through the southern part of the city, had swollen due to heavy rainfall in Nairobi and surrounding areas.
The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday, November 21. Wambua’s body was carried downstream and eventually became lodged at Likoni Bridge, where it was recovered by members of the public. The body was later transported to the mortuary.
Authorities have warned the public to exercise caution around swollen rivers, as many have risen following the recent heavy rains. Drowning incidents have increased in recent days, with several deaths reported in Nairobi’s Kamukunji area, Thika, and Nyamira in separate incidents.
