The tour aimed to engage with personnel directly, evaluate their operational preparedness, and gain insight into the challenges faced on the ground.
According to a statement released on Saturday, KDF said the purpose of the visit was to interact with troops, assess the status of Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), and understand the operational environment and challenges encountered by service members.
During his tour of the Upper Eastern Sector, Maj. Gen. Kutto received briefings on the progress of Operation Ondoa Jangili II and the performance of the Multi-Agency (MA) team from the Commanding Officer of the 23 Mechanised Infantry Battalion and other MA commanders.
“He conducted a baraza at Moyale Odds Camp, where he praised the troops for their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to maintaining peace and stability. He also encouraged them to remain alert and uphold professionalism,” the KDF reported.
Focus on Security and Anti-Crime Measures
Maj. Gen. Kutto later joined a two-day security workshop held in Koket, where discussions centered on boosting regional security, tackling wildlife crimes, and addressing illegal trade.
His inspection also included visits to several key sectors: Sector Central (Konton, Gherille, and Diff FOBs), Sector South (Dadajibula, Liboi, Jaradam, and Hamey FOBs), and Sector North (Elwak, Damasa, Omar Jillo, and Mandera FOBs).
Throughout his engagements, Maj. Gen. Kutto emphasized the importance of a strong security mindset, urging troops to remain watchful and proactive in all operational situations.
“He underscored the necessity for continuous situational awareness, explaining that anticipating and understanding threats is crucial for effective defence,” KDF added.
He reiterated the essential role of the troops in safeguarding Kenya’s borders and sovereignty, highlighting that their discipline and dedication are key to national peace and stability.
Maj. Gen. Kutto concluded by motivating the soldiers to take pride in their service and maintain the highest standards of professionalism and devotion to national security.
