When asked whether he could guarantee credible and peaceful elections despite concerns from observers, the President said Kenya had learned important lessons from its past electoral experiences.
“Next year we will have elections and elections will be free and fair, elections will be peaceful, that I can give you a guarantee, because we are a solidly democratic country,” Ruto said.
He added that Kenyans have the power to choose their leaders and emphasized that the country has matured democratically through past challenges.
The President also expressed optimism about his own political future, saying he expects to win another term by God’s grace.
“I think I can guarantee as President today that next year there will be elections, they will be free and fair, and they will be peaceful, and I will be re-elected, and I will be re-elected by God’s grace,” he said.
His remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections, with emerging opinion polls indicating a competitive race.
A recent TIFA Research survey placed Ruto in the lead with 24% support, followed by Kalonzo Musyoka at 19%, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i at 14%, Edwin Sifuna at 10%, and Rigathi Gachagua at 9%, while Babu Owino registered 2%.
The poll also showed that 15% of respondents were undecided, reflecting an evolving and highly competitive political landscape.
The survey, conducted between May 2 and May 11, 2026, involved 2,013 respondents across nine regions through face-to-face household interviews.
Ruto has consistently maintained that his government is committed to democratic governance, stability, and ensuring a peaceful transition during the next election period.
