Nimrod Mbai: Yeyote Anapinga Ruto Asikuje Kitui East

Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai has issued a stern political warning, declaring the constituency a no-go zone for any opposition figure planning to visit and criticise President William Ruto.

Delivering a fiery address in President Ruto’s presence, Mbai was unapologetically blunt.

He cautioned anyone intending to bring “anti-Ruto politics” to Kitui East to reconsider, saying the area firmly stands with the Head of State.

A staunch UDA defender, Mbai insisted that Kitui East is solidly behind the ruling party and that those championing rival political agendas should not expect room to operate there.

Although he did not spell out what would happen to anyone who defies his warning, the tone of his message suggested that challenging him would be a serious political gamble.

While Mbai is known for issuing hardline statements, making this one directly before Ruto gave it added weight—signalling his confidence and grip on local politics.

Meanwhile, during his ongoing tour of the Ukambani region, President Ruto reiterated that the area will be fully included in Kenya’s development plans.

Speaking in Kasikeu, Kilome Constituency during a four-day visit, he assured residents across Makueni, Kitui and Machakos counties of equitable development.

In Kitui, Ruto toured Mwingi North, Mwingi West, Kitui South, Kitui East and Kitui Central as part of efforts to boost rural infrastructure.

In Kitui East, he commissioned the Chuluni–Nzombe–Mwitika road, a project expected to ease access to markets, schools and health facilities.

He also inaugurated the Ithookwe Stadium and the upgraded Kitui Airstrip in Kitui Central—key projects poised to strengthen sports, tourism and investment in the county.

Ruto’s tour is particularly notable because Kitui is the political stronghold of opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

The Kitui leg of the tour followed developments in Makueni the previous day, where Ruto opened the Mikuyu Bridge in Kilome, launched the Emali–Ukia Road in Kibwezi West and inspected the Wote Affordable Housing Project.

He also made several roadside stops to speak with residents.

In his remarks, Ruto emphasised that his administration will continue prioritising projects that uplift communities that have historically been left behind.

He pledged to work tirelessly to bring the Kamba region closer to the government ahead of the next general election, saying the area has suffered development setbacks due to remaining in the opposition for many years.
