Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has cautioned the youth to approach technology, especially social media platforms, with vigilance and discretion.
Mudavadi expressed concern over the tragic incidents, including deaths resulting from Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), and urged for the implementation of stringent policies and regulations to combat the rising prevalence of gender-based violence facilitated by technology.
He emphasized the significant role played by technology, particularly social media, in societal transformation, job creation, and creativity. However, Mudavadi warned against the risks posed to young individuals, citing instances where they become victims of harmful situations through online platforms.
Highlighting the infiltration of predators on social media platforms, Mudavadi condemned IPV and urged society to recognize the harsh reality and educate the youth to prevent future occurrences.
Mudavadi called upon religious leaders, both Christian and Muslim, to utilize their platforms to advise and educate the youth on exercising caution in online interactions and understanding the repercussions of falling into social media traps.
He emphasized the need for increased awareness regarding the addictive nature of platforms like TikTok and Instagram, which are increasingly targeted by predators.
Women’s Rights Advisor to the President, Harriette Chiggai, echoed similar sentiments, stressing the importance of caution in online interactions to prevent IPV incidents. She emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting survivors and expediting IPV cases through the judicial system.
