The newly established resource centre, designed to serve as a hub for education and training, will feature a conference hall, as well as administrative and liaison offices. It is expected to become a vital learning space for local communities, with an emphasis on education in conflict resolution, particularly concerning human-wildlife interactions.
Prof. Kanga emphasized the importance of the centre in promoting peace and cooperation within the region, noting that local residents will be able to use the conference hall for meetings free of charge. KWS officers will be present to guide discussions on resolving human-wildlife conflicts, which have been a persistent issue in the area.
In addition to the educational role of the centre, the KWS Director General revealed plans to build kiosks to provide economic opportunities for women and unemployed youth in the region. These kiosks will enable individuals to conduct business in an organized and sustainable manner, contributing to the reduction of poverty levels in the community.
“We are committed to ensuring that women and youth have a platform to work and generate income. We will also provide clean water and bring further development to this area. It is essential that the community understands that the land belongs to the government,” Prof. Kanga stated.
As part of the initiative, KWS will station a drone at the centre to monitor and gather data on human-wildlife conflicts, aiming to develop better solutions for the region’s challenges.

“We are here to bring development, and that process should be free of noise and divisiveness. I urge leaders to avoid promoting politics that could hinder progress,” Prof. Kanga cautioned.
This resource Centre is set to be a cornerstone for local development, offering both educational opportunities and economic empowerment to the residents of Makueni.
