A Kenyan individual wanted in the United States in connection with the purported killing of his partner, a US nurse in Boston, was captured in the Westlands region of Nairobi.
Law enforcement officials reported that they are detaining the suspect, who faces accusations related to the death of Margaret Mbitu between October 30, 2023, and November 4, 2023, in Boston, USA.
Sources indicated that the suspect was seized at a nightclub on Monday night following a tip-off to the police.
Police disclosed that the individual had an Interpol Red Notice issued against him.
Since November of the previous year, the suspect had been evading authorities after fleeing from the USA to Kenya.
Senior figures at the Gigiri police station stated that they had notified the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters and were awaiting identification details from US law enforcement to assist in the identification process of the detained suspect.
“If positively identified, we will collaborate with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to commence the extradition proceedings,” stated a senior official involved in the investigation.
Kenyan detectives had previously received a request from US authorities in November to apprehend the suspect for alleged murder in Massachusetts.
The victim’s mother revealed intentions of ending her relationship with the suspect.
An arrest warrant was issued on November 2 after Massachusetts State Police discovered the body of 31-year-old Margaret in a vehicle at Boston’s Logan Airport Central Parking garage.
US police in the Whitman area indicated that Margaret was last seen leaving work in Halifax around 11 pm on October 30.
Authorities suspect the 40-year-old individual of murdering Margaret before purchasing tickets for a flight to Nairobi shortly after her death.

Massachusetts authorities are hopeful of utilizing Kenya’s extradition treaty with the US to bring the suspect to justice.
Initial evidence from the deceased’s vehicle pointed to the former partner as the primary suspect.
Margaret, a naturalized US citizen, graduated from Quincy College in 2018 and worked for Boston Area Multi-Services Inc (Bamsi) in Brockton.
