Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper party, pledges to annul the Housing Levy as his first act upon assuming the presidency, citing concerns over its misuse.
He asserts that the levy, which he deems a “Slush Fund,” will be abolished through his inaugural Executive Order. Kalonzo stresses his intention to contest the presidency in 2027.
His announcement follows recent remarks criticizing the levy’s imposition on struggling Kenyans and applauding the Court of Appeal’s ruling against its constitutionality.
Meanwhile, as the government seeks to appeal the decision, public hearings on the Affordable Housing Bill continue, gathering feedback from citizens and stakeholders across 19 counties.
Led by Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah, the bill aims to establish a legal framework for the Affordable Housing Fund, with the public input phase slated to conclude soon.
