Police confirmed they are investigating the suspected murder-suicide case, though the motive remains unclear.
Authorities discovered the bodies of James Munene Muchiri and his wife, Edith Muringu Mureithi, 38, inside their home. Edith’s body was found on the bed with deep wounds to her neck and ear, while James was found hanging from the roof with no visible injuries.
A knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered and taken in as evidence. The bodies were taken to the mortuary for postmortem examinations.
Police noted a worrying rise in murder-suicide cases, many of which are connected to domestic conflicts.
Separate Incidents Across the Country
In another disturbing case in Kondele, Kisumu County, police are probing a robbery that resulted in the death of a woman. Mercy Muthoni was attacked and fatally stabbed in the neck while at her shop. A knife was recovered at the scene.
Members of the public cornered the alleged attacker and stoned him to death. Police have since moved both bodies to the mortuary pending further investigations and autopsies.
Elsewhere in Ndabibi, Naivasha, a 30-year-old man was killed in an assault reportedly carried out by people known to him. His body was discovered in a maize field with multiple injuries including stab wounds, a fractured rib, and head trauma.
Police said the man was accused of theft and attacked by a mob at a private residence. Authorities are raising concern over the increasing number of mob justice cases, warning that some victims have been falsely accused.
Police urge the public to hand over suspects to law enforcement instead of taking the law into their own hands.
