Kenya Power Announces Areas to Experience Blackouts on Thursday

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned power outages across several regions on Thursday, 11 December 2025, as part of routine maintenance work to improve electricity supply reliability.

Through its official Facebook page on Wednesday, KPLC listed the areas and the expected blackout timings. The interruptions will vary by region and are scheduled as follows:

Nairobi Region (9:00 am – 5:00 pm)
Parts of Muthaiga, Eastleigh, and South C will be affected, including Traffic Police Headquarters, Utalii Hotel, Mathari Teaching and Referral Hospital, Shauri Moyo Estate, Parkview Estate, and Five Star Estate. Nasra Estate and surrounding locations such as Mama Lucy Hospital and Shujaa Mall will experience a separate outage from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Mt. Kenya Region (9:00 am – 5:00 pm)
In Nyeri County, areas including Kariko, Kinu, Gathera, and Ngaru Market will be affected. In Kiambu County, Thogoto and nearby locations including the University of Nairobi Kikuyu Campus and PCEA Hospital will experience power interruptions.

Western Region (9:00 am – 5:00 pm)
Busia County: Nambale and surrounding areas including Mungatsi Market, Madende Secondary School, and Lupida Health Centre.
Vihiga County: Sabatia, including Sabatia Eye Hospital, Vokoli, Busweta, and other local areas.
Kisumu County: Areas around KESREF such as Kibos Prisons, Tamuwa, and White Coal.
Kakamega County: Lubao and surrounding locations including Shinyalu Bar, Bishop Stamp, KMTC, and Bukhaiywa Secondary School.

Eastern Region (9:00 am – 5:00 pm)
In Machakos County, Tala, Kangundo Road, and surrounding towns including Tala Market, Matungulu, and Katangini will experience outages.

Central Rift Region (9:00 am – 4:00 pm)
Londiani in Kericho County, including Sachangwan, Kamaua, and KEFRI, will be affected.

North Rift Region
Uasin Gishu (9:00 am – 4:00 pm): Lingwai and Bindura areas.
Nandi (9:00 am – 6:00 pm): Tembwo, Koimet, and Chebindara Villages.

North Eastern Region (9:00 am – 5:00 pm)
Garissa and Modika in Garissa County, including Garissa Referral Hospital, Garissa University, County Assembly, and Modika Barracks.

Kenya Power has urged all customers in the affected areas to plan ahead and apologised for any inconvenience caused during the scheduled maintenance.
