Police in Laikipia County have intensified the crackdown on illicit alcohol, with members of the public playing a key role in helping security officers identify suspected illegal brewing operations.
Acting on information provided by the public, officers from Nanyuki Police Station raided a suspected chang’aa brewing den along the Kangaitha River.
During the operation, police seized 63 twenty-litre plastic containers filled with kangara, translating to approximately 1,260 litres of illicit brew.
The raid comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to curb the production, storage and distribution of illegal alcoholic drinks, which have been linked to various social and health concerns in communities.
Authorities have encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspected criminal activities to security agencies, noting that community cooperation remains critical in disrupting illicit brewing networks.
Police said operations targeting illegal alcohol production will continue across the country as authorities seek to tackle the vice at its source.
