Why KenGen Is Bringing 1,500 Energy Experts and Investors to Naivasha

Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) is seeking to attract investors to renewable energy and industrial development projects during a four-day conference scheduled for November 24–27, 2026, at the Olkaria Geothermal Spa in Naivasha.

The Sustainable Energy Conference 2026 is expected to attract more than 1,500 participants from over 80 countries, including 200 investors, 40 financiers, electricity producers and policymakers.

KenGen Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ronoh Kibet said the meeting would prioritise mobilising capital for energy projects and promoting the use of electricity to expand manufacturing and create employment opportunities.

Speaking during the conference launch on Thursday, Kibet said the company wanted to translate discussions and commitments into actual investments and projects.

“Our ambition is to move from dialogue to deals, from commitments to capital, and from potential to projects,” Kibet said.

He noted that Africa required increased investment to fully develop its energy resources, pointing out that approximately 600 million people across the continent still lack access to electricity.

KenGen currently has an installed electricity generation capacity of 1,786 megawatts, with renewable sources accounting for about 90 per cent of its output. These include geothermal, hydropower and wind energy.

The company is also advancing plans for the KenGen Green Energy Park at Olkaria, an initiative designed to harness geothermal electricity to support manufacturing and other industrial activities.

The four-day gathering will provide a platform for stakeholders to explore financing opportunities, strengthen trade partnerships, establish business networks and exchange knowledge and experiences within the energy sector.

Through the conference, KenGen aims to connect investors and financiers with energy and industrial projects that can support economic growth, expand electricity use and create jobs.
