The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that voters in Muminji and Evurore wards in Embu County, West Kabras ward in Kakamega County, and Isiolo South Constituency will go to the polls on February 26, 2026, in four by-elections.
The Isiolo South seat became vacant on November 12 following the death of the former MP, Mohamed Tubi. In Embu County, the Muminji and Evurore Ward seats were vacated after Newton Kariuki and Duncan Mbui resigned to contest the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election held on November 27, 2025, which was won by UDA’s Leo Wa Muthende.

In West Kabras Ward, David Ndakwa resigned to contest the Malava Constituency parliamentary seat, replacing the late Malulu Injendi.
In a Kenya Gazette notice published on December 19, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon appointed six Returning and Deputy Returning Officers to oversee the by-elections, with two officials assigned per county.
Political parties intending to participate must submit their candidates’ names by January 16, 2026. Independent candidates, who must not have been party members for at least three months prior to the by-election, are required to submit their names and symbols by January 2, 2026.
“The Commission shall publish the names of candidates participating in party primaries and the primary dates within seven days of receiving the submissions,” the notice stated.
Campaigning for the by-elections will run from January 22 to February 23, ending 48 hours before polling day. Electioneering will be permitted daily between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, with Ethekon warning candidates against violating campaign rules.

Public officers intending to contest must resign within seven days of a vacancy being declared. Political parties using indirect nominations must submit their lists by January 16, while any disputes regarding nominations must be lodged within 24 hours of occurrence and no later than January 26, 2026.
