Gachagua Hosts Opposition Leaders as 2027 Election Talks Heat Up

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hosted a meeting with opposition leaders at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County on Sunday, as discussions intensify around the 2027 presidential race.

The gathering included prominent figures such as former Interior Cabinet Secretary and 2027 presidential contender Fred Matiang’i, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and People’s Liberation Party Leader Martha Karua.

These leaders, who are working to strengthen their national support base, are expected to release a joint statement on Matiang’i’s presidential campaign and whether they will endorse his bid.

Earlier in Migori, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed ridiculed the opposition coalition, calling it a “Directionless Roadshow.” He criticized their “Ruto Must Go” slogan, referring to it as an outdated and ineffective message. “That slogan doesn’t need launching.

Just grab a mic in Nairobi and shout it. It’s been around since my primary school days with ‘Moi Must Go,’ followed by ‘Uhuru Must Go,’” Junet quipped, pointing out that the leaders in question had completed their terms.

Junet also mocked the opposition’s lack of concrete policy proposals, questioning why Kenyans should trust a group with no clear agenda for improving the lives of ordinary citizens. “You’re forming alliances with no plan for the people, and your big idea is to shout someone out of office? That’s not politics,” he remarked.

The Suna East MP reiterated his support for President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza-ODM collaboration, urging ODM members who deviate from the party line to cease their provocations. “Some in ODM think politics is about who shouts the loudest. Let me remind them, we signed 10 agreements to unite Kenyans, and that’s the path we are following,” Junet said.

Junet emphasized the importance of multiparty democracy, stressing that each party has its own strongholds and should respect one another.

“We know where we stand and where we are headed. Let’s stay united. Kenya belongs to all of us, whether in government or opposition. Do your job with dignity,” he concluded.

This comes just days after Matiang’i officially declared his presidential bid for the 2027 general election during a homecoming event at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County.
