Police in Machakos have launched investigations after the body of a man, believed to be in his early 20s, was discovered in a septic tank on Thursday morning around 9 a.m.

The circumstances under which the man ended up in the tank remain unknown.
The incident occurred in Kathemboni village, Kiima Kimwe location, on the outskirts of Machakos Town. With help from members of the public, Kenya Red Cross personnel, the Machakos County Rescue Team, and National Government Administration Officers, the police managed to retrieve the body from the 20-foot-deep septic tank.
The body was transported to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary.
The scene attracted a large crowd as the rescue efforts unfolded.
A representative from the Kenya Red Cross Society’s Machakos branch emphasized the urgent need for better rescue equipment in the county to improve emergency response in such situations.
