ODM chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has accused the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) of breaching the terms of the Broad-Based Agreement between the two parties.
Speaking in Awasi, Wanga claimed that UDA is planning to field candidates in areas traditionally regarded as ODM strongholds.

She described such actions as political dishonesty that undermines both the spirit and the letter of the coalition pact designed to promote cooperation and stability.
“The agreement clearly states that each party must respect the other’s political territories,” Wanga said, warning that ignoring this provision could strain the working relationship established under the deal.
Concerns about UDA’s activities in ODM-dominated regions are not new. Wanga noted that certain senior government officials, including Interior PS Raymond Omollo and Deputy Chief of Staff Eliud Owalo, have been implementing development projects in Nyanza, a traditional ODM stronghold, allegedly to consolidate political influence ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Broad-Based Agreement, signed in March 2025 between President William Ruto and the late Raila Odinga, requires both parties to respect each other’s support bases and avoid internal political interference.

The pact is guided by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a 10-point agenda focusing on national stability, economic growth, and the protection of devolution.
Technical teams from UDA and ODM were established to implement the agenda, ensuring that both parties’ interests are addressed while reducing political tensions and promoting national unity.
