Feng Shen, Huawei’s key account director, said the initiative uses the company’s digital quick optical distribution network to make internet access more affordable.
“Our mission is to deliver digital solutions to every person, home, and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world,” he explained.
Feng added that the network is faster to install, easier to maintain, and more cost-effective than alternative solutions, allowing for lower consumer prices.
Martin Chere, acting chief channels officer at Safaricom, noted that residents can access the internet for as little as 800 Kenyan shillings (around 6.2 U.S. dollars) per month.
