The government has extended a dusk-to-dawn curfew in 13 locations across Marsabit County for 30 days amid continuing security concerns.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced that the curfew will take effect from December 23, starting at 6:30 pm, citing the areas as “security-disturbed and dangerous.”
“The extension highlights ongoing threats to residents and property in these communities,” Murkomen said.
The areas affected include Hillo Gorgora, Hillo Orofa, Hillo Walkite, Hillo Tanzania, Hillo Irress Abamartille, Hillo Gootu, Hillo Tessum Qalicha, Hillo Karray, Hillo Hudda, Hillo Qoranjido, Hillo Irress Shindia, Hillo Rabaalee, and Hillo Godde Haroressa.

The curfew is accompanied by a ban on firearm possession in the designated zones. Residents found with guns are instructed to surrender them immediately at the nearest police station, post, camp, or National Government Administration office during daylight hours. Surrendered weapons will be returned to their lawful owners once the security notice is lifted or revoked.
Murkomen added that police officers will actively monitor the areas to ensure compliance and reduce armed violence.
The public has been urged to cooperate with security agencies, follow firearm surrender directives, and avoid non-essential travel into or within the affected zones.
