Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrance Koilem said the violence began when Aroko and his team allegedly disrupted Were’s rally and fired shots into the air, triggering chaos and retaliation.

As Were proceeded to report the matter at Oyugis Police Station, his supporters allegedly attacked Aroko’s group, resulting in the fatal hacking of two men, both aged 26 and believed to be Aroko’s supporters.

Koilem confirmed that investigations are ongoing and vowed that those behind the killings and violence would face justice.

“We are pursuing everyone involved—no one will be spared,” he said.

Homa Bay Governor and ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga strongly condemned the incident, calling on police and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take decisive action against any candidate or supporter linked to political violence ahead of the Kasipul by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025.

The Kasipul seat fell vacant following the killing of former MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Nairobi.
