Police are investigating a disturbing incident in Kitutu Central Sub-County, Kisii County, where an eight-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her uncle before a mob later set his house on fire.
Authorities said the incident took place on May 19 at Nyamatuta Village in Bigege Sub-location. The 32-year-old suspect is believed to have attacked the Grade Two pupil, causing fatal injuries.

Reports indicate the child had gone home for lunch and was on her way back to school when she was attacked. She suffered a deep cut on the right side of the head and died at the scene.
Investigators have not yet established the motive, though early findings suggest there had been long-standing family disputes between the suspect and his elder brother, the girl’s father.
The suspect later surrendered at Gisieka Police Post in Marani Sub-County, where he was arrested and transferred to Nyanchwa Police Station. Soon after, angry residents stormed his home and set it ablaze, destroying property of unknown value.
The girl’s body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Separately, 88-year-old man killed in suspected attack in Siaya
Police in Gem Yala Sub-County, Siaya County, are also probing the death of an 88-year-old man who was found with severe head injuries near his home in Jina Village.
The man, identified as William Ochieng Okwacha, was discovered along the Jina–Sagam murram road about 300 metres from his home on May 19, with deep cuts on his face and head.
Investigators believe he may have been attacked around 4:20 am while heading to the market, a routine he reportedly followed on market days.

He was rushed to Yala Level IV Hospital and later referred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, but he died at around 2:45 pm before the transfer was completed.
His body has been moved to the Yala Level IV Hospital mortuary pending postmortem as investigations continue.
