The meeting, which took place at a Nairobi hotel, was also attended by DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, suggesting the possibility of a new political coalition forming.

This was the first formal conversation among the three leaders as they discussed strengthening their political collaboration and the creation of a new alliance for the upcoming elections.

Gachagua’s recent activities suggest a changing political landscape.

On January 28, he participated in the opening of DAP-K’s new Chui Headquarters in Nairobi, adding to the rumors about his future political partnerships.

At the event, Gachagua criticized President William Ruto, accusing him of abandoning their original political agreements.

“We assured him that we would do everything to help him reach State House, but once we got there, he disregarded all the commitments we had made—the 47 county investment charters and clearing pending bills to inject money into circulation—he forgot everything,” Gachagua said.

He also rejected the corruption allegations made against him by Kenya Kwanza, questioning Ruto’s credibility on the matter.

“When he goes to Western Kenya and says I was removed because of corruption, I ask him—do you have the moral authority to talk about corruption? Look in the mirror first,” Gachagua responded.

Gachagua’s meeting with Kalonzo and Wamalwa follows the recent postponement of his new party’s launch to May. While the specifics of their talks remain unclear, there is widespread speculation that their discussions were focused on strategizing for 2027.

Meanwhile, Gachagua has ramped up efforts to unify the Mount Kenya region and solidify his political support base.

As part of this effort, he has aligned with former Justice Minister Martha Karua, leader of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), formerly NARC-Kenya.

On January 25, Gachagua held a significant meeting with Karua at her home in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, accompanied by several lawmakers, including Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri MP), Jane Kihara (Naivasha MP), Wanjiku Muhia (Kipipiri MP), and James Murango (Kirinyaga Senator).

The group brought symbolic gifts such as goats, sheep, and farm produce, indicating a potential strengthening of their relationship.

As Gachagua continues to expand his influence, his growing alliances with Kalonzo, Wamalwa, and Karua point to the emergence of a political force that could challenge Ruto’s dominance in 2027.
