Speaking on Tuesday, the president emphasized that the construction of this critical road is key to ensuring the fair distribution of national resources.
“I am committed to delivering the 750 km road from Isiolo to Mandera because, for too long, Northern Kenya has been neglected,” Ruto said.
He also addressed those who doubt his ability to keep his promises, warning them not to underestimate him, as they could be in for an unpleasant surprise.
“Let me tell you, my fellow citizens, in this country, we sometimes treat serious matters as if they are a joke,” Ruto remarked.
The President reiterated his administration’s focus on national development and acknowledged the great responsibility that Kenyans have entrusted him with in transforming the nation.
“Just last week, or the week before, I was in Northern Kenya, where I announced a major road project—a vital route from Isiolo to Wajir and all the way to Mandera. Many think it’s just talk or a joke,” he said.
“But we are focused and deliberate because we must develop this country in a balanced way.”
During his recent visit to Northern Kenya, Ruto’s announcement about the road expansion project led to a flurry of reactions online.
Kenyans shared numerous memes, especially after Ruto quickly named various locations along the route.
Standing on top of his vehicle, surrounded by a large crowd in the hot Isiolo sun, Ruto enthusiastically outlined the road’s path, demonstrating his detailed knowledge of the area’s geography.
“Ndio barabara itoke Mandera, ikuje Ramu, ikuje Garre, ikuje El-Wak, ikuje Kobo, ikuje pale Kotulo, ikuje Tarbat, ipitie hapa Wajir, iende Samatan, iteremke Modogashe, ifike Isiolo, iende Nairobi…”
The video of this moment quickly went viral, with Kenyans comparing it to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s earlier comments about Ruto’s deep familiarity with rural roads and local markets.
Despite the online humor, the president remains steadfast in his commitment to infrastructure development, ensuring that Northern Kenya will no longer be left behind.
