In a notice issued on February 18, 2025, NEMA instructed those involved in sand harvesting to apply for licenses through its official portal.
Director-General Mamo Boru Mamo highlighted the Environmental Management and Coordination (Sand Harvesting) Regulations of 2024, stressing their importance in environmental conservation.
“The primary goal of the regulations is to promote the sustainable use of sand while safeguarding the environment,” the statement stated.
