The deceased recruit has been identified as 23-year-old Alfas Kimutai Kiptoo. He collapsed on the morning of February 6, 2026, while taking part in a routine morning run at the Kahawa area along the Kiganjo–King’ongo Road.
He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. His family has since been notified, and the body was transferred to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination and further procedures.
The death comes barely days after a similar incident at the General Service Unit (GSU) Field Training Campus in Magadi, Kajiado County. Police confirmed that another recruit, Cheme Chombo Cheme, died on January 31, 2026, after collapsing during training.
According to police, Cheme lost consciousness while undergoing a recruit course at the Magadi campus. He was initially taken to Magadi Hospital before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was also pronounced dead on arrival.
With the latest case, the number of recruits who have died since joining police training colleges in December 2025 has risen to four. Other fatalities have previously been reported at the Kiganjo campus and at the Administration Police Training College (APTC) A-Campus in Embakasi, Nairobi.

On January 18, 2026, a recruit at the Embakasi campus died while receiving treatment after reporting symptoms including chest pain, dizziness, coughing and extreme fatigue.
Similar concerns have also been raised within the military. In January, three Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruits died after developing medical complications during a routine endurance exercise at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
KDF said the incident occurred on January 29, 2026. The recruits were given first aid at the training ground before being rushed to Eldoret Regional Hospital for specialised care. Despite medical intervention, all three succumbed.
The military confirmed that the families of the deceased were informed and assured them of support during the difficult period.
“The Kenya Defence Forces conveys its deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, fellow recruits and colleagues of the deceased,” KDF said in a statement.
KDF added that a comprehensive investigation has been initiated in line with military procedures to establish the cause of the deaths, with findings expected to inform measures aimed at improving the safety and welfare of trainees.
