Drug trafficking networks in Machakos County suffered a setback after a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation led by NACADA resulted in the seizure of cannabis and the arrest of three suspects in Matuu Town, Yatta Sub-County.
The pre-dawn operation on Sunday was carried out by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) alongside other law enforcement agencies, as part of an ongoing nationwide push to disrupt drug supply chains.

Officers targeted two known drug distribution points that had been under surveillance for suspected cannabis trade within the town and nearby areas.
At the first location, authorities recovered 12 brooms of cannabis and arrested a female suspect believed to be involved in retail distribution.
A second, more sophisticated site led to the recovery of 360 small rolls of cannabis and about 100 grammes of dry, unprocessed plant material suspected to be narcotics. Two additional suspects were arrested at this location.
Police also confiscated weighing scales, rolling papers, rizzlers and other items believed to have been used in the preparation, packaging and sale of the drugs.
The suspects and seized items were taken to Matuu Police Station as investigations continue ahead of their court appearance.
NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa said the raid reflects intensified enforcement efforts under the Presidential Directive aimed at strengthening the national fight against drugs.
“This operation demonstrates our firm commitment to removing drug traffickers and their networks from our communities in line with the renewed national anti-drugs campaign,” Omerikwa said.
He cautioned those involved in the illegal drug trade that authorities are steadily dismantling narcotics supply chains.
“Anyone exploiting Kenyan youth through drug trafficking should be aware that law enforcement is closing in relentlessly. We will not stop until these criminal networks are fully dismantled and our communities are safe,” he added.

The Matuu raid follows closely on another NACADA-led operation in Naivasha on Saturday, where an associate of a notorious drug trafficker was arrested with a large consignment of cannabis and is awaiting arraignment.
Officials say the successive operations highlight improved intelligence sharing and determination among agencies to disrupt drug markets, deter traffickers and protect young people from substance abuse.
NACADA has reiterated that sustained, multi-agency enforcement remains a key pillar of Kenya’s broader strategy to reduce both the demand and supply of illicit drugs.
