AirAsia X to Suspend Nairobi-Kuala Lumpur Route Due to Low Demand

AirAsia X, the budget division of AirAsia, will discontinue its Kuala Lumpur-Nairobi flights starting September 1, 2025, due to insufficient demand.

The airline announced that customers with bookings beyond the suspension date will receive a refund.

“Starting September 1, 2025, AirAsia X (flight code D7) will halt flights between Kuala Lumpur and Nairobi as part of its network optimization strategy due to lower-than-expected demand,” the airline stated.

To assist affected customers, the airline is offering several options including full refunds, credit accounts, or free flight changes (for travel before August 31, 2025). Passengers can also contact the airline’s customer service for further assistance.

This decision comes just months after AirAsia X launched direct flights between Kenya and Malaysia in November 2024.

The airline currently operates four weekly flights on the Nairobi-Kuala Lumpur route, offering over 156,000 seats annually, with one-way fares starting at KSh 25,685 (\$199).
