Jambojet Resumes Nairobi-Entebbe Flights After Seven-Year Hiatus

Low-cost airline Jambojet has resumed daily flights between Nairobi and Entebbe, returning to the route after a seven-year absence.

The airline marked its return to Uganda with an inaugural flight from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Entebbe International Airport on Thursday.

Jambojet CEO Karanja Ndegwa said the renewed service would help strengthen trade, tourism and investment ties between Kenya and Uganda.

He noted that the airline had gained valuable experience during the period it was away from the route, which coincided with major disruptions in the aviation sector, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jambojet, a subsidiary of Kenya Airways, suspended its Nairobi-Entebbe service in 2019 after operating the route for about two years.

Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei said the government was committed to supporting the route and ensuring it remains sustainable as part of efforts to boost tourism.

Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda Ababu Namwamba welcomed the resumption, saying demand for travel between Kenya and Uganda remained strong.

Namwamba urged Jambojet to build on the experience gained during its absence and strengthen its services, noting that travellers now have more choices when flying between the two countries.

Aviation and Aerospace Development Principal Secretary Teresia Mbaika said the government was working to improve the passenger experience at JKIA through ongoing modernisation and expansion projects.

She encouraged Jambojet to ensure the route remains commercially sustainable and consider adding more flights if passenger demand increases.

Mbaika also urged the airline to strengthen customer service as it seeks to attract and retain passengers on the Nairobi-Entebbe route.
