Wiper Breaks Silence on Claims Kalonzo Is Set to Join Ruto

Wiper Party has rejected reports suggesting that its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, is planning to join President William Ruto’s administration, maintaining that the party remains committed to working with the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Wiper chairman Jamleck Kamau dismissed the reports as propaganda, alleging that individuals within government were behind the claims in an attempt to weaken Musyoka as opposition parties continue talks on forming a united political front.

Kamau said the claims linking Musyoka to the government were intended to create divisions within the opposition at a time when parties and political leaders are discussing the structure and leadership of a potential coalition ahead of the 2027 polls.

He also addressed Wiper’s engagement with Parliamentary Service Commission Chairperson Johnstone Muthama, explaining that he was the one who initiated contact with the former politician.

Kamau said Muthama had not met Musyoka to persuade him to join the government, noting that the two had held discussions on two occasions—first at a Nairobi hotel and later at his home.

The Wiper chairman further disclosed that the party was holding discussions with other politicians currently aligned with the government, suggesting that some could eventually join the opposition.

He described the engagements as part of broader political consultations as parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Meanwhile, former Ambassador Kiema Kilonzo said the immediate focus should be on bringing Kamba leaders together before expanding the engagement to leaders from other communities and political groups.

Kilonzo said greater unity among Kamba leaders would contribute to wider efforts aimed at strengthening cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the election.

Kamau reiterated that Wiper intended to remain within the united opposition and was working towards building a coalition capable of challenging President Ruto in the 2027 election.
