Justina Wamae Declines Ruto’s Taskforce Offer

Justina Wamae, former running mate in the Roots party’s presidential campaign, has declined an offer from William Ruto to join a taskforce tasked with auditing health resources.

This decision follows Ruto’s recent gazetting of a 20-member Human Resources for Health (HRH) taskforce aimed at evaluating healthcare workforce resources.

President Ruto emphasized the necessity of formulating robust strategies and policies to bolster the healthcare workforce, naming Wamae as part of the team.

While expressing gratitude for the recognition of her capabilities, Wamae cited her current maternity leave as a hindrance to effectively fulfilling the role.

“I appreciate President William Samoei Ruto for acknowledging my strengths and appointing me to the Presidential Taskforce on Human Resources for Health, as per Gazette Notice No. 8437, Executive Order No. 5 of 2024 dated July 5, 2024,” she stated on X.

“However, after thoughtful consideration, I regretfully decline the offer due to my ongoing maternity leave, which would impact my ability to contribute effectively at this time.”

The taskforce includes various other appointees such as Acting Ministry of Health Director General Patrick Amoth and Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Deputy Secretary General Dennis Miskellah. The President designated joint secretaries Edna Tallam-Kimaiyo and Morris Kaburu, with Khama Rogo appointed as chairperson and Judith Guserwa as vice chairperson, for a six-month term beginning July 5, 2024.

Wamae had previously admitted to seeking employment from the Kenya Kwanza government on January 26, 2023, stating that such requests are common practice in Kenya.

She clarified that while she aspired to serve the nation, she remains content with her current business endeavors to support her family.
