Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has reiterated that Kalonzo Musyoka will be the Wiper Party’s presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Monday, Mbui emphasized that the decision is a collective one made by the party, not Kalonzo alone.
“We are informing the country that we have a presidential candidate, and in 2027, we will present him,” Mbui stated on Citizen TV. He clarified that the National Executive Council of the Wiper party has resolved that Kalonzo will be on the presidential ballot in 2027.
Despite Wiper’s participation in the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, Mbui asserted that their party has the right to field a presidential candidate, just like other coalition members. He explained that having candidates from different parties within Azimio promotes a healthy competition mechanism.
Kalonzo had previously announced his readiness to run for president in 2027, emphasizing that he would not be seeking Raila’s endorsement. The Wiper leader, who supported Raila in previous elections, faces pressure from his Ukambani region to make a presidential bid.
After withdrawing his candidacy in the 2022 General Election and declaring support for Raila, Kalonzo stated his intention to traverse the country and promote his bid for the upcoming poll.
Ukambani leaders have urged him to campaign nationally, emphasizing their support for his presidential aspirations in 2027.
