National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has intensified political mobilisation in Western Kenya, holding meetings in Bungoma County aimed at strengthening support for President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
On Saturday, Wetang’ula met teachers and union representatives from across the county in what his allies describe as a targeted outreach to key grassroots influencers.

The engagement came shortly after similar consultations with religious leaders and community elders, as he steps up efforts to solidify backing for the Kenya Kwanza administration in the region.
Addressing educators, Wetang’ula reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the education sector, citing recent teacher recruitment efforts as evidence of progress.
He described teachers as highly influential voices in society, saying their opinions carry weight within households and communities, and urged them to support continued stability and development under the current administration.
Political observers say focusing on teachers is a strategic move, given their trusted role as local opinion shapers.
The Bungoma visit follows earlier tours of Nyanza counties, including Homa Bay and Migori—areas traditionally seen as opposition strongholds—where he reportedly received a warm reception from some local leaders.

Wetang’ula, who plays a key role in driving government business in the National Assembly, is increasingly being viewed as a central figure in shaping the administration’s political direction.

Analysts argue that his ongoing engagements reflect a wider Kenya Kwanza strategy to consolidate regional support as early positioning for the 2027 elections gathers pace.
