Wandayi to KPLC Staff: Improve Service or Resign

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has issued a stern warning to Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) employees, urging them to improve their performance or leave the company.

Wandayi expressed his frustration with the ongoing suffering of Kenyans caused by inefficiency among certain KPLC staff members.

“There is no reason why Kenyans should continue to endure poor service from employees who refuse to serve,” he stated.

He stressed that there should be no excuse for failing to address customer complaints promptly, reminding staff that the people are the true employers of KPLC workers.

“Take your work seriously, respond to complaints swiftly, and address the issues raised in a timely manner,” he added.

Speaking in Alego Usonga, Siaya County, the CS made it clear that he would no longer tolerate excuses from KPLC officers, saying, “If you find the job too difficult, please step aside.”

Wandayi reminded staff that KPLC is largely government-owned, and those assigned to handle electricity issues in rural areas must take their roles seriously.

He accused some officials of adopting a boss-like attitude, causing unnecessary hardship for Kenyans.

Wandayi emphasized that it is the responsibility of both himself and other officials in his ministry to help the President achieve his goals of addressing the needs of the people.

The CS also revealed plans for significant reforms in the ministry starting in the new year to ensure better service delivery.

Additionally, he announced that he would be making unannounced visits to KPLC offices nationwide to monitor progress and hold staff accountable.

During his visit to Siaya, Wandayi toured the local KPLC office and urged the staff to maintain timely and quality service. He was accompanied by area MP, Samson Atandi.
