Siaya Governor James Orengo has affirmed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna continues to hold the position of Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Orengo emphasized that Sifuna is still the officially recognised SG of the party.
“As I stand here, the Secretary General of ODM is Senator Edwin Sifuna. Let me repeat for the record and for all who can hear us across this great country: the SG of Raila’s party, ODM, is one Edwin Sifuna,” he said.
Orengo highlighted Sifuna’s long-standing service, noting that he has been with Raila Odinga through key moments, including managing party affairs between the 2017 and 2022 elections.
“Throughout Raila Odinga’s life, and during Sifuna’s tenure as SG, there was never a single instance where Raila publicly rebuked or criticised him in performing his duties as Secretary General,” he added.
On his side, Senator Edwin Sifuna disputed his dismissal asserting that he remains the party’s legitimately elected leader.

Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi, Sifuna described the decision as unlawful and criticised the process that led to his ouster.
“I was not given an opportunity to defend myself,” he said, arguing that ODM’s National Executive Committee (NEC) acted in violation of the party’s rules.
Sifuna reaffirmed his commitment to ODM and its founding principles, promising to continue defending the party’s interests.
