UDA Sets February 21 Deadline for Registration in Repeat Grassroots Polls

In a notice issued to members, UDA invited interested aspirants to submit applications for vacant positions within their respective polling centres.

The repeat polls are intended to reorganise grassroots leadership and address issues identified during the initial election phases.

In a statement, the party directed members to check available slots through its online portal.

The elections will fill various positions at the polling centre level, which form the foundation of the party’s leadership framework. These grassroots structures are key in mobilising support, coordinating activities and influencing decision-making from the lowest tier upwards.

UDA stated that registration for polling centre positions will be free, a move seen as encouraging wider participation among members.

Earlier, the party announced the repeat elections in selected polling centres across 42 counties after reviewing reports from its internal electoral bodies.

Secretary General Hassan Omar said the decision was made during a National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting held on Tuesday, January 20, chaired by party leader President William Ruto.

The NSC reviewed reports from the National Elections Board (NEB) and the Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee (ENDRC) concerning the recently concluded grassroots elections, which were conducted in three phases.

Phase II was held in June last year, while Phase III took place in January, covering 42 counties.

Following determinations by the ENDRC and a resolution by the National Executive Council (NEC), the party resolved to conduct fresh elections in select polling centres.

The repeat polls for Phase III are scheduled for March 7, while those for Phase II will be conducted on March 28.

The move to hold repeat elections across 42 counties underscores UDA’s effort to streamline its leadership structures and ensure adherence to its constitution and internal electoral rules.

Grassroots polls are considered vital for political parties, as they determine officials who directly interact with members and voters at the local level and influence leadership selection at ward, constituency and county levels.

By directing members to an online platform to check available positions, UDA is also embracing digital systems to manage its internal processes, a step expected to improve transparency and access to information on vacancies and eligibility criteria.
