A man has been arrested after police in Kakamega County confiscated 120 litres of chang’aa during a crackdown on illicit alcohol.
The Thursday evening operation in Ikhulili village was carried out by officers from Eregi Police Station in collaboration with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

Police confirmed the suspect is in custody and will be charged in court. “We remain committed to dismantling all illegal alcohol and drug networks,” the National Police Service said in a statement.
The Kakamega arrest comes amid a wider nationwide clampdown on illicit brews.
Earlier this week in Kahawa West, Nairobi, police destroyed more than 3,500 litres of kangara, seized 180 litres of chang’aa and two brewing coils, though the main suspect escaped and is still being pursued.
On August 27, authorities uncovered over 10,000 litres of kangara in another raid, alongside 50 kilograms of jaggery and packets of yeast catalyst believed to be used in brewing. The illegal products were destroyed as part of ongoing investigations.

Police say the intensified raids are aimed at reducing the production and sale of toxic brews, which have been linked to deaths, family breakdowns, and social disorder.
The National Police Service is urging the public to report suspicious activities, stressing that curbing illicit alcohol requires strong community cooperation.
