Kalonzo Dedicates Mashujaa Day to Raila, Hails Him as Kenya’s True Hero

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dedicated this year’s Mashujaa Day to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a true national hero whose lifelong struggle for justice and democracy shaped Kenya’s political history.

In a heartfelt message shared on X, Kalonzo joined Kenyans in paying tribute to Raila, celebrating his resilience through decades of political persecution, detention, and electoral injustice.

“Today, I join millions of Kenyans in dedicating this Mashujaa Day to my brother and dear friend who has taken his final bow, our Second Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga,” Kalonzo wrote.

Reflecting on Raila’s unwavering spirit, Kalonzo noted the personal sacrifices he made in pursuit of a better Kenya.

“Years of detention did not break you. The torture chambers did not silence you. The pain of stolen elections never defeated you,” he said.

Addressing him affectionately as Agwambo, Kalonzo hailed Raila’s courage and perseverance:
“You embodied true heroism — not in words, but in your steadfast belief, endurance, and hope.”

He went on to reassure the late ODM leader, known fondly as Baba, that his sacrifices will forever be remembered.

“Your sacrifices, Baba, will never be forgotten. You are and will always remain my hero — Kenya’s Shujaa,” Kalonzo declared.

Concluding his message, he offered a symbolic farewell:
“From your perch on the mountaintop, I wish you and all Kenyans of goodwill a Happy Mashujaa Day.”

Kalonzo’s tribute comes as the nation observes a seven-day mourning period declared by President William Ruto following Raila’s death.

During Raila’s state burial at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, President Ruto led dignitaries from across Kenya and abroad in celebrating Raila’s life, describing him as a global statesman who dedicated his life to democracy and the unity of the nation.

As Kenyans gather for the Mashujaa Day celebrations at the newly built Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui, Raila’s legacy is expected to feature prominently — a fitting tribute to a man whose fight for justice, freedom, and equality defined generations.
