University Students Beaten at Kibandaski Over Sh20 Mandazi Balance

A disturbing scene unfolded at a local kibandaski where two university students were assaulted after failing to clear a Sh20 balance on their meal.

Witnesses said the students had ordered food worth Sh110 but paid only Sh90, triggering the eatery owners to attack them in frustration.

A video circulating on X shows the two being beaten, sparking widespread outrage from students and Kenyans who questioned why such violence would occur over a small amount of money.

Many online users condemned both the assault and the students’ failure to pay the full bill.

One user wrote, “Maybe that Sh20 was the owner’s only profit. Don’t play with someone’s hustle.”

Another added, “Gen Zs need to learn — you don’t joke with someone’s livelihood. A beating is what you get.”

Some questioned why those present did not intervene, with one person commenting, “This is wrong. If someone just paid the Sh20, none of this would’ve happened.”

Although the exact date and location of the incident are unclear, several posts suggest it may have happened in Karatina and possibly involved students from Karatina University.

A kibandaski is a small, low-cost food joint popular with students and workers seeking affordable meals.
