Tragedy struck Ramba Boys High School in Rarieda, Siaya County, when a septic tank collapsed, resulting in the deaths of two Form Four students.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening, leaving two other students seriously injured.
It is reported that the students were among a group standing on top of the septic tank when it collapsed around 6:00 pm. Following the tragedy, riots broke out at the school, with students destroying property, blaming the management for what they believed was a preventable incident.
Witnesses indicated that over eight students were on the septic tank when it gave way, with four students being trapped. While some students managed to escape, two were rescued alive. A junior teacher stated that most of the students escaped without injuries.
Both police and Kenya Red Cross officials responded swiftly, working overnight to recover the bodies of the deceased. Local leaders joined the community in mourning, offering condolences and wishing the injured students a speedy recovery.
Siaya Governor James Orengo expressed his deepest sympathies and assured the public of his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of learners across the county. He also called for calm during this challenging time.
Area MP Otiende Amollo expressed his sadness and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
A group of parents criticized the school management for not communicating promptly about the incident. Many parents gathered at the school overnight as news of the tragedy spread.
To prevent further disturbances, additional police were deployed to the school on Sunday to manage the rioting students. Authorities also sent counselors to provide support to the students as part of the ongoing efforts to help them cope with the loss.
Police are collaborating with multiple agencies to investigate the incident, with plans to take action if any wrongdoing is found.
