The decision was made following a meeting on February 7, 2025, to assess farmers’ earnings.
Agricultural Principal Secretary Paul Ronoh has instructed all sugar factories to adhere to the new price and ensure timely payments to farmers.
This move is part of ongoing reforms in the sector, including the Sugar Bill 2022, which established the pricing committee to guarantee fair compensation for both growers and millers.
In January, President William Ruto introduced Kenya’s first sugar bonus program, allocating Sh150 million to 15,000 farmers at Mumias Sugar Company.
The president also signed the Sugar Act 2024 into law, which aims to streamline operations, regulate supply, and dismantle cartels in the sugar industry.
