Vehicles Torched as Kindiki’s Embu Meeting Turns Chaotic

Chaos erupted during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) mobilisation meeting at Nembure Stadium in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County, with several vehicles reportedly set ablaze.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki was reportedly evacuated from the venue after the situation escalated, disrupting a meeting that had been organised to mobilise UDA polling centre officials.

Several people were also reported to have sustained injuries during the unrest.

In a statement issued after the incident, Kindiki said the UDA regretted the destruction and losses resulting from the disruption of the party gathering.

“The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party regrets the loss and/or damage brought about by those responsible for organising the youth to disrupt our party meeting in Nembure, Embu earlier today,” Kindiki said.

The Deputy President condemned the violence and called on security agencies to take action against those involved.

“The Party condemns violence and demands that law enforcement agencies take punitive measures against all those responsible for perpetuating political violence,” he said.

Kindiki maintained that UDA supports issue-based politics, with political parties competing on the basis of their development record and policy proposals for the country.

He said political support should be won through ideas and performance rather than what he described as lies, violence and empty slogans.

Kindiki further disclosed that UDA leaders in Embu had been directed to establish the extent of the damage and coordinate assistance for those affected by the incident.

“Our party leadership in Embu has been tasked with verifying the exact nature of the loss and/or damage, and to coordinate responses to stand in solidarity with all those adversely affected in one way or another,” he said.

The statement did not specify the number of vehicles that were damaged or torched during the disruption.
