Safaricom has revealed that M-Pesa processes around Sh100 billion in transactions day, highlighting the vast scale of Kenya’s digital payments landscape.
CEO Peter Ndegwa said the platform facilitates nearly 500 million transactions daily.
Speaking at the Connected Africa Summit 2026, he noted that M-Pesa’s system is capable of handling up to 10,000 transactions per second.
He added that the service has expanded to seven countries, reflecting its growing regional presence and its impact on financial inclusion.
Ndegwa also urged closer cooperation with governments to ease bottlenecks and speed up the digitisation of public services.
His comments come as Safaricom continues to expand its digital infrastructure to keep up with increasing transaction volumes and broaden access to financial services.
