A woman from Homa Bay was discovered deceased in a river after being missing for a span of two days, prompting an investigation by security officials in Kabondo Kasipul.
Caroline Akoth, aged 50, was found dead under unclear circumstances in River Awach within the constituency after vanishing for two days.
Akoth disappeared from her farm on Friday while tending to her land in Ogenga village, located in Kasewe location.
Family members reported her disappearance before her body was eventually discovered, though the events leading to her demise remain unknown.
The chief of Kasewe location, Dickson Samba, confirmed that the matter had been reported to the police for further investigation after the discovery of Akoth’s body trapped amidst reeds and twigs in the river waters.
Samba mentioned that inquiries with the woman’s family revealed no indication of distress prior to her disappearance.
Following the incident on Monday, Samba stated that the family had initiated a search for Akoth when she failed to return home, eventually leading to the discovery of her body two days later.
Authorities from Othoro station, led by Subcounty Commander Justus Kucha, were notified and visited the scene to retrieve the body, subsequently transporting it to Jawabu mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The security officers are optimistic that the autopsy will provide insights into the cause of the woman’s death.
Kucha urged residents to promptly report any cases of missing persons, emphasizing that thorough investigations, including further interrogations of family members and postmortem analysis, will be conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Akoth’s demise.
