The count of individuals injured in the Embakasi gas explosion has surged to 280, as confirmed by Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura.
Initially, Mwaura reported that 222 individuals had sustained injuries from the explosion. “Initially, we had 222 injured persons from the Embakasi fire incident, but the figure has risen to 280,” he stated.
Mwaura made these remarks on Friday at the site of the incident, which occurred on Thursday night. He mentioned that the explosion transpired around 11:30 pm when a lorry carrying gas cylinders exploded, affecting commercial properties, vehicles, and residential houses.
Three casualties have been reported so far, occurring while they were receiving treatment at Nairobi West Hospital. “Initially, we had two fatalities, but now we have three. The government extends its sincere condolences to the families of the departed souls,” Mwaura expressed.
Out of the 280 injured individuals, 43 have been transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital, while 17 are receiving care at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital. Additionally, 157 were rushed to Mama Lucy General Hospital, 18 to Komarock’s Modern Hospital, and 21 to Garrison Hospital. Eight individuals were taken to Nairobi West Hospital, where three of them succumbed to their injuries.
Furthermore, eight individuals are undergoing treatment at Metropolitan Hospital, and two at Radiant Hospital. Additionally, there is one patient at Pendo Hospital, three at AAR, and four at the Nairobi Hospital.
