South Africa has submitted a case to the International Court of Justice, accusing Israel of genocide during its conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
The application alleges that Israel, in violation of the Genocide Convention, has committed acts and omissions with specific intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza. South Africa emphasizes the high death toll, including civilians in UN shelters.

Israel rejects the claims, asserting adherence to international law and directing military efforts against terrorist organizations. The conflict has caused widespread devastation, prompting international concern. South Africa’s application is based on reports of international crimes, including genocide, and is framed within its treaty obligation as a State Party to prevent genocide.
Both South Africa and Israel are parties to the Genocide Convention. Israel, in response, has expanded its operations in southern Gaza, claiming the destruction of tunnels and a hideout belonging to a Hamas leader.
