President William Ruto is today set to continue his tour of the Ukambani region with a busy itinerary across Kitui County, focusing on launching and inspecting key infrastructure projects designed to spur connectivity and economic growth.
The Head of State will cover five constituencies — Mwingi North, Mwingi West, Kitui South, Kitui East, and Kitui Central — as part of the government’s ongoing push to fast-track rural development in the Eastern region.

According to the official schedule, Ruto will kick off his day in Mwingi North, where he will inspect the Kamuw’ongo–Kandwia Road, a vital link for trade and transport in the northern part of the county. He will then move to Mwingi West to assess progress on the Kwasiku–Migwani–Mbondoni Road before proceeding to Kitui South to officially launch the Ikutha–Mutha Road, expected to unlock agricultural and mining potential in the area.
In Kitui East, the President will inaugurate the Chuluni–Nzombe–Mwitika Road, a project aimed at improving access to markets, schools, and health facilities. Later in Kitui Central, he will commission the Ithookwe Stadium and the refurbished Kitui Airstrip, both major projects expected to boost sports, tourism, and investment within the county.
Ruto’s visit to Kitui is politically significant as it is the home county of opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka. The trip follows his engagements in Makueni County on Wednesday, where he commissioned the Mikuyu Bridge in Kilome, launched the Emali–Ukia Road in Kibwezi West, and inspected the Wote Affordable Housing Project.
During stopovers in Makueni, Ruto pledged to continue prioritizing projects that uplift livelihoods, especially in regions long neglected in national development.
Local leaders and residents are expected to turn out in large numbers to receive him, with many viewing his visit as renewed government attention to the Ukambani region.
While addressing residents in Kibwezi, Ruto vowed to ensure the Kamba region aligns with his administration by the next general election.

“Kwa vyovyote, mbele na nyuma, kulia na kushoto, juu na chini, hii Ukambani haiwezi kukaa upinzani tena,”
(“By all means possible, Ukambani will never again remain in the opposition.”)
The President admitted that his earlier political actions had contributed to the region’s isolation but pledged to correct that by bringing development and inclusion.
“Tell them Ruto has arrived and declared that Ukambani is leaving the opposition to join the government,” he said, drawing cheers from the crowd.

Ruto’s Kitui tour marks day two of his Eastern Kenya development visit, which spotlights infrastructure, housing, and youth empowerment as central pillars of his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
He is expected in Machakos County on Friday, followed by a leaders’ meeting on Saturday to conclude the regional tour.
