Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda has dismissed allegations that she pocketed Ksh10 million to support the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during Citizen TV’s DayBreak show, Mutinda came under pressure from Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, who claimed every senator was offered the money to vote for Gachagua’s removal. Nyutu insisted he turned down the offer but suggested Mutinda had accepted it.

“The issue of the Ksh10 million bribe—let her swear before God and Kenyans today that she didn’t take it,” Nyutu challenged.
Mutinda, however, pushed back strongly, accusing Nyutu of misdirected frustrations.
“Did you give me anything? I did not receive a single cent to impeach Gachagua. Just manage your frustrations and move on,” she said, adding that the impeachment debate is now behind them.
The bribery allegations echo claims made earlier by Gachagua himself in September 2024. During a rally in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, he alleged that senators and MPs were being offered a bribe to back the motion against him, but that his allies, including Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Senator James Murango, declined the inducements.
Gachagua was eventually impeached on October 17, 2024, after a heated two-day Senate process that saw lawmakers uphold five of the 11 charges presented against him.
